Now I suppose I should introduce myself before I launch into a discussion.

I'm a girl. Well, a woman actually. And despite being a feminist I will never spell woman like "womyn". I'm currently in the tail end of my senior year and next year I will be starting to earn my degrees in International Relations and Theatre.

The International Relation bit involves Peace and Conflict Resolution and the Theatre bit involves Stage Management.

Anyone who continues to read this thing will realize that I'm actually pretty moderate. I don't like stupid people. I'm sorry that may sound elitist or whatever but some people just don't fire their synapses enough.

Okay, thats enough introduction for now. Let's talk about the woman I love to hate: Rosie O'Donnell! Now I know some of you are saying "Not another Rosie article. I'm sick of hearing about her." Well normally I would launch into a commentary on the state of the world or our government. But let's start off slow for now.

I was watching MSNBC and in the fluff bit of one of their shows I heard two names that I believe are complete foils: Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O'Donnell. Really the only thing these two women have in common is that they are both gay, rich, and have tv shows. Now, Rosie apparently has a blog, on which a veiwer asked why she always harps on being gay.

So what did the Witched Witch of the Lesbian World have to say about Ellen (who, let's face it, is Glinda the Good minus the frilly dress) in her video blog? Well, Miss Rosie says that Ellen doesn't talk about being gay on her show because she's under contract not to. Here's the video, sorry its from CelebTV, I couldn't find a better one.

Now, sure, Rosie admits that Ellen is a trailblazer. But really Rosie..."it came on the heels of my show"? Way to proclaim yourself as a trailblazer. Honey I hate to break it to you but the hoopla about you coming out wasn't because you came out on television...people do that all the time....the hoopla was everyone around you collecting their winnings from the "Rosie is a Lesbo. When will she admit it?" betting pool.

Note: Ellen is not the one cooped up on a couch with two other old hens posting a third rate video blog. Ellen was probably out doing something productive with her life.

And kudos to the viewer who called Rosie out! Why does she always talk about being a lesbian. I've heard of pride but this lady takes it to a totally different level. I mean, it seems Rosie can't go through a conversation without feeling the need to proclaim she's gay. This only perpetuates the stereotype of flamboyant gays who are too caught up in their own sexuality to handle anything else. Not all gay people go around proclaiming their homosexuality. And I'd be rolling on the ground laughing if I saw a straight person walking down the street being "flamboyantly straight". As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing attractive or honorable about reminding everyone of your sexuality as if they've forgotten in the past 5 minutes. Pointing out differences and reinforcing stereotypes in not the way to achieve equality.

So Ms. O'Donnell, consider this. Ellen doesn't speak about her own personal gay life on television because why should she? Her sexuality is a large part of who she is, but unlike you, it is not why she is famous. She goes to rallies. She sponsors special gay rights groups. She is also in helping out for many other different causes.

She is a woman of action not merely words. She is someone we could all learn an important lesson from her, including you, Rosie.

Thanks for reading everyone! I promise things will be a little less fluff oriented on my next post!

L.
